The luxury home market has heated up in the Cape. The key to surviving is finding a quality builder with a list of happy clients, knocking on their doors to ask questions whether the builder kept within deadlines and budgets. Photo courtesy of Sinclair Custom Homes.

As the housing market soars in Southwest Florida, and particularly in Cape Coral, builders of quality homes are succeeding. One such builder is Sinclair Custom Homes, the firm’s president also bringing Made in the Cape into the mixture: custom cabinetry fashioned and assembled at his city shop. Matthew Sinclair, also president of the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, will add a wood-milling device for crown molds, trim and other custom work, especially as buyer demand for authentic woods such as oak and mahogany rises.

The trick to his success, Sinclair has built more than 100 custom homes in the last decade, is pretty straightforward―use the same craftspeople for consistency and quality, oversee every project, he says, from ground clearing to ribbon-cutting. “A hands-on builder gives proper direction [at the job site], and you’re not going to have quality issues,” he says. “Better workmanship, better customer service.”
