It's National Park and Recreation Month and the city of Cape Coral is joining in on the festivities with Discover Parks & Recreation Day on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yacht Club Community Park. The public will have a chance to learn about various Parks & Recreation programs, as well as engage in many free activities, according to the department's website

Activities include an ice cream social, photo booth, scavenger hunt, kid’s crafts, touch tanks and live critters, children's tennis instruction and prize drawings throughout the day. According to the website, prizes include tickets to Sun Splash Family Water Park, free golf at Coral Oaks Golf Course, passes to the Yacht Club Pool, kayaking at Eco Park, passes to Coconut Festival 2017, Parks and Recreation T-shirts and more.

As a part of the month-long celebration, the city held a free ice cream social on July 7, featuring the Timeless Tunes, at Lake Kennedy Center.

Still to come, on July 29 and 30, the city will allow free boat trailer parking at Cape Coral's five developed boat ramps: Yacht Club Boat Ramp, Horton Park, Rosen Park, Burnt Store Marina and BMX Boat Ramp (normal fee is $10).

"Other efforts to recognize the importance of parks include local children’s artwork featuring Cape Coral parks being on display in Cape Coral City Hall from July 5-28 and PGA 'Family Golf Month' specials at Coral Oaks Golf Course to encourage affordable family bonding on the golf course," the website says.

The city is also promoting the national “Get Your Play On” message, with free children's activity books available while supply lasts at the Parks & Recreation reception desk in Cape Coral City Hall.
