Cape Coral to Celebrate Veteran's Day With Drive-in Parade

Nov 06, 2020 05:00PM ● By Kevin
The city of Cape Coral will celebrate Veteran's Day in true, socially distant fashion with a tailgate, drive-in concert, drive-out parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020. The festivities kick off at 9:45 a.m. at Sun Splash Family Waterpark.

This unique celebration is in honor of American heroes, paying tribute to those who lost their lives, those who served honorably, and those who are still proudly serving our country. The parade is a result of the combined efforts of the city of Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department and local community volunteers.

All interested spectators will be a part of this year's parade as everyone is required to participate inside of his or her vehicle. All vehicles are encouraged to decorate for the occasion. Registration through Eventbrite is not mandatory, however, it is recommended in order for the event coordinators to properly estimate car attendance. Event coordinators will be enforcing CDC guidelines and recommendations during the event. Pets are also encouraged to attend and dress for the occasion.

The parking lot opens promptly at 9 a.m., followed by a calendar girls dance performance. The drive-in concert featuring The Jeff Becker Band takes place from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and is followed by a recognition of our veterans at 10:50. The helicopter flyover takes place at 11 a.m., kicking off the vehicle parade. Veterans and veteran groups will have a reserved parking section. The big difference this year will be the fact that there are no marching bands or routines being performed.

There is still time to sign up to volunteer. Those who wish to do so will be assisting in routing cars to their assigned parking areas and helping route cars to exit the venue for the parade portion of the event. You must be able to stand for long periods of time. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and neutral-colored shorts/pants. Hats and sunscreen are recommended but not required. Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older. All volunteers will receive a volunteer shirt, snacks, and plenty of water to stay hydrated. Volunteers are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of their shift and be prepared to leave 15-20 minutes after the shift is over.
