Cape Coral is officially the happiest city in Florida, according to a new study by WalletHub.

Ranked #1 in Florida based on a number of metrics, Cape Coral seems to be the place to go if you’re looking to move to an overall happy, positive place.

According to WalletHub, “Location plays a hand in how bright or gloomy our days are. For years, researchers have studied the science of happiness and found that its key ingredients include a positive mental state, healthy body, strong social connections, job satisfaction, and financial well-being.”

All of these ingredients factor into how happy people are and ultimately, how happy their surroundings then become.

This study was published in March of 2021 - a year after COVID-19 closed down much of the United States. One year later and this study shows the top 182 happiest cities to live in.

“In order to determine the happiest cities in America, WalletHub compared 182 of the largest cities — including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — across three key dimensions: 1) Emotional & Physical Well-Being, 2) Income & Employment and 3) Community & Environment,” states WalletHub’s article. “Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing maximum happiness.”

Some of the Emotional & Physical Well-Being metrics included depression rate, adequate sleep rate, and sports participation rate. Income and Employment included metrics such as job satisfaction, unemployment rate, and bankruptcy rate. A few metrics within the Community and Environment dimension were separation and divorce rate, hate-crime incidents per capita, and ideal weather.

Although Cape Coral ranked #1 in Florida, it came in at #31 overall. According to Wink News, “Its total score was 62.23, with an “Emotional & Physical Well-Being” ranking of 54, but a 4 for “Community & Environment.” It also scored a 52 on the “Income & Employment” scale.”
