It’s a Dog’s Life: And Then Some

While dogs (and cats) enjoy a nice scratch, a good nap and a tasty treat, what they may really love is a good day of pampering at a spa. Pet spas offer a variety of services—a brush and a bath, nail trims and filings, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, haircuts, and even facials and deep conditioning. The animals get a day away, and their parents enjoy a well-pampered pup when they pick Fido up. “We both get a day off!” says Maria Gomez of Fort Myers, who brings her lab mix, Max, to one of the local spas a few times a year. “It’s a treat,” adds Gomez.

Southwest Florida has a number of pet spas, offering a variety of treatments for both dogs and cats. We’ve gathered a few here.

For those in Fort Myers Beach and Estero, Paw-Radise offers a convenient location on Tamiami Trail. It provides full-service grooming, baths and brush-outs, puppy trims, teeth brushing and spa showers. After a full day of pampering, your pet can try some of the healthiest dog and cat foods and treats on the market.

Sanibel Island Grooming is the only full-service salon on Sanibel and nearby Captiva. Of course, if you’re on the island enjoying a day at the beach, you can always drop your pooch off to enjoy this pet salon—from bathing to clipping to pedicures.

The Royal Paw Grooming offers full-service packages that include bathing and blow-outs; face, ears and tail trims; nail filing and more. There are also à la carte services to choose from, including deep conditioning treatments, whitening shampoo, hair color/design and teeth brushing.

Bonita Springs residents can bring their pets to the Dog Spa for a good day of pampering. The spa offers full grooming services for dogs and cats, such as an all-natural bath and blow dry, gentle eye and ear cleaning, toenails and paw hair trimming, and a haircut and style. À la carte services include teeth cleaning, nail polish, medicated shampoo and “pawdicures.”

Want door-to-door service? Try a mobile groomer. Many offer all of the services you would expect at a storefront salon. Kathie’s Mobile Grooming Spa for example, offers a blueberry facial scrub, shampoo and conditioner based on your dog’s hair type. She also files nails and uses alcohol-free ear wipes. Owner Kathie Bebo opened the business in May, after 20 years in the business.  She is taking on new dogs that are 40 pounds or less and do well with the grooming process.

Here are a few local mobile services to choose from.
