May 31, 2024 04:19PM ● By Ann Marie O’Phelan

On June 20, SunSplash Family Waterpark will offer an incredible way to keep everyone safe in the water during the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.

“Your child will learn basic water safety skills and swim techniques from our certified lifeguards!” explains Hollie Reed, Administrative Manager. The class takes place one hour before the park opens. The class is free, but online registration is required ahead of time at SunSplashWaterpark.com.

We can’t wait to help your kids enjoy the water more safely this summer, so register as soon as you can,” says Reed.

Learning to swim is vital to your child’s safety. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children ages four and older learn to swim. Even if they know how to swim, taking a lesson is a good refresher. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children, and learning to swim can be crucial to prevention. They also state that In the United States:

  • More children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death.

  • For children ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.

So, it’s imperative to make sure your young ones know how to swim especially in Florida, where water is abundant, with swimming pools, lakes, rivers, the Gulf, and even bathtubs.
