Bringing The Arts To Homeschoolers Across Southwest Florida

Monday, August 12, marks the day that children in grades K-12 will be returning to the classroom for another year, except for home schoolers who will continue their studies at home.
Home schooling has become a popular choice in Florida. During the 2022-2023 school year, over 150,000 students participated in home education programs. That’s nearly a 60% increase over the last five years.

Parents and caretakers are looking for interesting ways to fill their homeschooler’s days, such as taking them to museums such as the Cape Coral Museum of History, nature centers such as Rotary Park, and libraries, such as the Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library.
One great choice for art-loving homeschoolers and all youngsters is heading over to Art in the Cape, an art studio that allows walk-ins from 12 noon to 5 pm.
“We also offer workshops, lessons, and private group events, all scheduled during 10 am to 12 noon, or 6 pm to 8 pm,” says Lorna Bluestein, Owner of Art in the Cape. All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend. Art in the Cape is located at 1625 SE 47th Terrace, Cape Coral, 239-233-5662.
Art lovers will find other nearby options. One is Karma and Coconuts, where classes and workshops are offered during the day and evening. Karma and Coconuts is located at 1112 SE 47th Terrace, Cape Coral, 239-542-0424.
Another is the City of Cape Coral’s Art Center, where various children’s classes, such as painting and clay, are available year-round. On-site, there’s also an art supplies store, a gift shop, and a few art galleries. The Cape Coral Art Center is located at 4533 Corondo Parkway, Cape Coral, 239-574-0802.
Developing a love of art and encouraging children to engage in art helps in many ways, such as developing fine motor skills, increasing problem-solving skills, boosting self-confidence, and promoting well-being. So, spending time on art skills is a good investment in their education, regardless of where they are getting an education. Many school districts have reduced or eliminated art classes, so even children who attend traditional schools will benefit by taking an art class or two.
