Soak Up The Last Days Of Summer

Aug 07, 2025 07:00AM ● By Ann Marie O’Phelan

Unlike the phrase, Endless Summer, the summer does end officially on Monday, September 22, 2025, however, even before then, it’s back to school. But there’s still time to enjoy family fun before the school bell rings and the homework hits.

One great place to enjoy is Tropical Breeze Fun Park, where they say: “Adventure Meets Family Fun”. And that is so true as they offer an 18-hole mini golf in a tropical-themed setting, a Gellyball arena where battery-powered blasters shoot hydrated gel orbs that are not messy and are biodegradable, and a Sharpshooter Target Gallery. There’s a Tiki Hut to cool down under. The hut can also be rented for parties. Plus, enjoy refreshments and drinks, including beer and wine. “Come and make new memories in a clean, tropical setting that was made for fun,” says owner/operator Bob Trimarchi. Tropical Breeze Fun Park is at 234 Santa Barbara Boulevard, Cape Coral, 239-574-3939, www.tropicalbreezefunpark.com.  “See you on the course!” adds Trimarchi.

Head to Fort Myers Beach and you can partake in a Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruise, where you’ll enjoy a 90-minute interactive comedy adventure aboard the Pieces of Eight, a 65-foot replica Spanish galleon. Guests partake in many fun activities on the adventure, such as watching live cannon rounds, witnessing a mutiny against the captain, and enjoying fun nautical games and activities. It’s perfect for all ages and a great way to blast off the summer. Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruise is at 2500 Main Street, Fort Myers Beach, 239-765-7272. Check the website for details.

There’s no better way to cool down than with an Ice Cream treat. One local favorite,  Love Boat Ice Cream, has several locations throughout SW Florida, including one at 1523 NE Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. They offer over 85 flavors, like Orange Creamsicle and Cotton Candy. Plus, there are low-fat and sugar-free options, and sorbets, so there’s something for everyone. Another local favorite is Sidecar Treats at 343 SE 47th Terrace, 239-205-5434. Flavors include Red Velvet Cake and Coffee Oreo, along with other treats like Boozy milkshakes, acai bowls, and tasty popcorn in various flavors.

Besides ice cream, another good way to beat the heat is to head to the Cape Coral Public Library at 921 SW 39th Terrace, Cape Coral. There are significant events and activities, a vast collection of books and other reading materials, on-site wi-fi, public access computers, and much more.  While you’re there, check out the butterfly garden in the back!  Visiting the library is a great way to prepare the school-age children for the classroom and the perfect way to enjoy a little time cooling off with the AC.
